In a bizarre collaboration that defies usual forecasts, Ubisoft has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, including free extra story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Adventure Revealed

According to the formal release, "A strange encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where whispers of forbidden rituals and monstrous changes reverberate through the obscurity." The plot presents a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her friend from a clandestine sect.

The adventure centers on "bizarre tests and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Iconic Places and Metamorphoses

The preview features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer ends with a striking scene showing a character, probably the captive, changing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Prizes and Additional Content

Players who finish the quest will obtain an unique katana alongside multiple objects hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps steed

Third Free Story Addition

This release also introduces the game's latest no-cost story episode, titled "The Mystery." This playful quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature abilities: Naoe introduces a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Collaborations

This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime franchises. The series formerly showcased a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally included a quest that unmistakably nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
