Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Issues and Squad Response

Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with performances like these.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
