The co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that parent company Unilever stopped the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the company alongside his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new product as part of a personal collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Parent Company

The recent announcement intensifies the ongoing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how the parent company and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Flavor becoming an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur stated through social media that he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for public suggestions for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand which was first established in 2016 for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen indicated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company in September, following many years with the organization, citing concerns that the company's autonomy had been compromised after corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can achieve the social mission, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
