Defiant Wilfried Nancy shows no fear of dismissal yet Celtic fans unleash wrath after loss.
The Celtic boss insisted he did not fear the sack, claiming, “We are extremely close to things turning around,” even after edging perilously close to the chopping block with a comprehensive setback against their arch-rivals.
Another Collapse Leads to Derby Loss
The Hoops were in front their oldest rivals at the interval but a disastrous second period allowed Rangers to move level on points with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was brought in from the MLS, has now presided over six setbacks in his first eight games.
“The board and I are united at the club,” stated the manager.
Questioned about the speculation, Nancy replied: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on working out methods to get the team to improve on details.
Supporters' Anger Outside Parkhead
Celtic’s support made their feelings clear – directed at the board and manager – by gathering at Parkhead. The hierarchy would be most likely to return to Martin O’Neill, who enjoyed a successful interim spell before Nancy was hired, if Nancy departs.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. That is the situation for the moment. But in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. What I mean we are really close, extremely close to turn things around.”
Focus on the Details
He highlights the fact the side show good levels for a half at a time. Indeed, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they might have been more than 1-0 up. “There were positives aside from the fact that we didn't take more goals,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.
“The performance we had at stages was of top quality. This is the reality. I wouldn't say that if it was different. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I mentioned we've seen this before. For that reason I said that we are really close to getting it right. Currently: small things.”
“There were many, many good things that we did, once more. However it’s about consistency. My message would not be if I didn't believe it. That’s why I am a big believer we will manage to turn things around.”
The Rangers Boss Response
Rangers manager refused to contemplate a title charge in spite of what felt like a huge result. “Step by step, and we can gradually build something here,” he said. “The belief in the team is outstanding.”
