Tim Southee's most recent Test match for New Zealand was against England in December 2024.

England bowling consultant Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the opening match because of his participation in the ILT20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.

Southee, 36, took up a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.

Speaking as the English team for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the present time.

"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on 21 November.

"In my view there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," he remarked.

"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] side that's going out to the host country is brilliant.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

However, prior to England head to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
