LBJ's Record-Setting Scoring Streak Concludes, However Los Angeles Claim Victory Against Toronto.

The Lakers star knew his incredible run of reaching double digits was threatened. At the decisive instant, though, he wasn't bothered.

The smart move meant distributing the rock – and he executed. With that selfless act, the unprecedented record came to an end.

James's unprecedented streak of 1,297 consecutive regular-season games with 10+ points was snapped on Thursday night, as the NBA's all-time scoring leader had only eight total points in the Los Angeles Lakers' close win against Toronto. He delivered the game-winning assist, finding teammate Rui Hachimura to hit a triple to win the game.

“Zero,” James said in response on the record concluding. “We won.”

An Unselfish Play Secures the Game

LeBron had the chance to sought to clinch the contest – and extended his record – with the last shot, but he chose to pass to Rui on the wing. Hachimura made the shot, prompting James celebrated immediately.

“Just playing the game the proper way. You always make the right play,” James remarked. “That’s just been my philosophy. It's how I was taught the game. I've played that way my whole career.”

“LeBron is fully cognizant exactly how many points he's scored during a game,” commented Lakers coach JJ Redick. He acted like he’s done countless times.”

The Run's End Game

He returned to the floor one last time at 5:23 remaining, the result along with the historic run both hanging in the balance. His tally was six points from 3 for 15 from the field at that juncture.

He scored with under two minutes remaining to level the contest and missed a shot at 1:01 left which could have taken him to ten points.

He didn’t take one more attempt – but could have. A teammate gave James the ball with a few seconds left, however, James decided to make the pass instead.

The basketball deities, when you play it the right way, they tend to bless you,” the coach concluded.

The History of a Staggering Record

The record began over eighteen years ago. It stood as the greatest such streak in professional basketball: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem had 787, and Karl Malone recorded at 575.

He is such a pass-first superstar,” said Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He simply plays the sport. He could have shot but because of the player he is and just who he is as a person, he executed the team play, passed it to Rui and we won the victory.”

Scoring in double figures had long been a formality long before the fourth quarter began. During James’s streak, he had reached the 10-point mark entering the fourth over twelve hundred times before this game.

But two of those rare games below ten points after three periods took place just days before: He had nine points entering the final quarter against Dallas last week, and then had six before the fourth quarter versus the Suns earlier in the week.

He succeeded in extend the streak in the Phoenix game. In the following contest, it finished – yet he was celebrating anyway.

My focus is to make the right play. That is instinctive, regardless of outcome,” James declared. If you make the smart play, the sports deities consistently returning the favor.”
