Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their unions for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments suggested the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
