The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
On the Tremendous Audience Reaction
One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”
“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.
A Pressing Query: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?
Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Then again, why mess with the classics?
“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
